Pine nuts ripen in the cones of the pine tree before we prepare them for you in the 100 g pack in our shop. The fine, buttery kernels are wonderfully aromatic and an enrichment in every kitchen. Order organic pine nuts online now!

The time consuming pine nut harvest

Pine nuts are not actually nuts, but seeds - just like our sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. The pine cones are collected from pine trees in elaborate manual work. After harvesting, they are then heated in the oven to release their delicious seeds. By the way, this process takes place the very same way in nature, on very warm days when the sun's rays affect the cones. After removing the shell, the pine nuts are cleaned and then dried. With a bit of luck, they will end up in our nut wonderland and soon in your kitchen!

Using pine nuts for cooking and baking

Mild, sweet, buttery, aromatic - pine nuts have a wonderful taste that goes well with both sweet pastries and savoury dishes. You can add them to your vegetable lunch bowl, roast them in a pan and sprinkle them over your salad or make homemade pesto. They also go well in stews, soups or raw, in your muesli. In the large value pack, you have enough options to upgrade a wide variety of dishes. With our organic pine nut butter, you can even spread the little seeds on your bread, or eat them by the creamy spoonful.

Pine nuts or cedar nuts?

If you take a closer look, our organic pine nuts are actually organic cedar nuts. What does that mean? Don't worry, the two species are actually very closely related and have a very similar flavour. The confusion in the terminology stems from the fact that the term "pine nuts" has become widely used in international trade. This is because there are over 100 varieties of the pine tree genus worldwide, while the cedar tree genus only includes three varieties. The genus of our cedar nuts is called pinus siberica and can also be legally referred to as pine nuts. Unlike the famous pinus pinea, it does not originate from the Mediterranean region. But none if this is important when you consider what matters: in terms of flavour, the cedar nut is in no way inferior to other pine nuts and is even more aromatic and intense. So you are definitely making the right choice with our organic cedar nuts!

AWESOME!!!

I used to order pine nuts from other suppliers. Now I wanted to try these... what can I say... they're super tasty, nutty, and the size is just right :-) I'll definitely buy them again—thanks.

Delicious seeds for my salad

Delicious pine nuts, which I use in my salads—especially when my son-in-law is visiting; he’s allergic to nuts

Not good this time

They smell rancid, don't smell like they usually do, and you can tell they're not fresh

Thank you very much for your feedback! We’re sorry to hear that you weren’t satisfied with the organic pine nuts this time and that you found them to be stale and noticeably off in both smell and taste. Freshness is especially important when it comes to nuts and seeds, and we understand that it’s disappointing when they don’t meet your expectations. Of course, tastes and impressions are always subjective, but we take such feedback seriously. You can contact our customer service team at any time via the Help section on our website. We hope you’ll soon find a product on our website that better suits your preferences 🤗

"Organic Pine Nuts 500 g" are not pine seeds but cedar nuts

Dear KORO community,

Please note: What KORO refers to as "Organic Pine Nuts 500 g" and "Pinus Sibirica" are not the expensive seeds or kernels of the pine trees growing in the Mediterranean region ("Grana Pini majoris"), but rather what is commonly known in German-speaking countries as cedar nuts/kernels and sold at a lower price compared to pine nuts. The nutritional values of pine nuts and cedar nuts differ significantly.

My suggestion to KORO: Please label the nuts/seeds of Pinus Sibirica correctly and unambiguously as "cedar nuts" rather than "pine nuts." Thank you.
